Impact of extra-curricular activities on reproductive health knowledge of high school students in Lao Cai province, Viet Nam
Tóm tắt
The study was conducted on 466 students at No.1 high school and at Bao Thang high school in Lao Cai province to assess the effectiveness of extracurricular activities in improving knowledge of reproductive health. The students were divided into two groups: A control group who did not participate in the extra-curricular activities on reproductive health, and an experimental group who did participate in extra-curricular activities on reproductive health. The results showed that students in the control group knew relatively little about reproductive health (approximately 30% and 90% of students who did not know about important puberty signs and conceiving time during menstrual cycle, respectively) while those in the experimental group improved their knowledge of reproductive health markedly. The results also suggest that besides the integration of reproductive health contents with other subjects, providing extra-curricular activities is useful
to increase high school student’s knowledge of reproductive health.
