Abstract
The study “The current status of clinical nurses’ communication with patients at Long An General Hospital in 2023” has the following objectives: Describe the communication practices of clinical nurses with patients. at Long An General Hospital in 2023. Research method: Cross-sectional description, conducted from November 2022 to November 2023. Conducted observations of 426 interactions of nurses in direct contact with patients (using a pre-designed checklist) through 6 communication situations, in 4 departments (Department of Examination, Department of Trauma Surgery, Department of General Internal Medicine, Department of Pulmonary and Kidney Medicine) of Long An General Hospital. Results: Nurses’ communication with patients had a good practice rate in all 6 stages of 76.1%, of which, for each stage, the lowest was 67.6% (hospital discharge stage) and the highest was 83.1% (outpatient clinic period); not good is 23.9%. Poor communication skills of nurses with patients are often related to: Introducing themselves and their titles, giving instructions and consulting as well as fully answering patients, using correct language (enough subjects and words). predicate) and use non-verbal language (such as smiles, facial expressions).
