Abstract

Objective: To describe the knowledge of prevention of recurrence of peptic ulcer disease in patients with gastroduodenal ulcer at the Center for Gastroenterology - Hepatobiliary, Bach Mai Hospital and to identify associated factors. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 68 inpatients with peptic ulcer disease at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Bach Mai Hospital, from January 2024 to April 2024. The patient knowledge assessment tool had a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.72. Results: A total of 82.4% of patients demonstrated inadequate knowledge, whereas only 17.6% exhibited good knowledge. The study identified a significantly higher proportion of patients with good knowledge among those with a longer disease duration and those receiving information from the internet or social media (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Knowledge about recurrence prevention among patients with peptic ulcer disease at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Bach Mai Hospital, remains limited. Health education should be enhanced for newly diagnosed patients, with guidance on how to identify and access reliable medical information sources, thereby enabling them to obtain accurate knowledge for disease prevention and management
