The current adherence to osteoporosis treatment among patients at Ninh Binh provincial general Hospital

Abstract

Objective: To describe the current adherence to osteoporosis treatment of patients at Ninh Binh Provincial General Hospital. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to assess the adherence to osteoporosis treatment including compliance with medications, physical exercise, and calcium rich diet of 251 osteoporosis patients at Ninh Binh Provincial General Hospital from April to June 2024. The study used Phan Thi Thuy’s toolkit and was re-tested with a Cronbach’s alpha index of 0.775. Results: The overall bandscore of osteoporosis patients’ adherence to treatment was 10.21 ± 3.96 out of a total of 21 points on the scale, the lowest was 1 point and the highest was 20 points. The percentage of patients with the adherence scores of ≥ 50% of the scale was 48,6%.There were reasons make it difficult for patients to comply with treatmen such as Difficult to remember or easy to forget how to use medications; did not know how to exercise; and did not know what were calci rich foods. Conclusion: the adherence to treatment of research osteoporosis patients was limited and these results suggest that improving adherence to treatment for osteoporosis patients is necessary and it should be noted patients’ difficulties those can be solved through counseling and health education
