Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) tool in measuring the self-care abilities of individuals with type 2 diabetes in the Nam Dinh Province community. Method: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 300 individuals with type 2 diabetes using convenience sampling. The Vietnamese version of the SDSCA questionnaire was utilized from May to June 2024. Results: The overall scale exhibited a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.88. The subscales had Cronbach’s Alpha coefficients ranging from 0.71 to 0.94. Factor analysis revealed that the Vietnamese version of the SDSCA questionnaire, consisting of 10 items, was categorized into three factors: (1) diet and exercise, (2) blood glucose testing, and (3) foot care. Conclusion: The Vietnamese version of the SDSCA questionnaire demonstrated high structural validity and reliability, making it an effective tool for nurses and other endocrinology specialists to assess self-care activities in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
