Abstract

Objective: To describe the outcomes of breastfeeding counseling for postpartum women with normal delivery and to analyze several factors associated with the effectiveness of this activity at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital in 2025. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study comparing before and after women attended antenatal classes was conducted on 250 women giving birth naturally from November 2024 to May 2025 at the Obstetrics Department of Vinmec Times City International Hospital. The research toolkit to assess knowledge about breastfeeding includes 6 contents: Knowledge about the benefits of breastfeeding, Knowledge about early breastfeeding, Knowledge about correct breastfeeding, Knowledge about maintaining, enhancing and protecting milk supply, Knowledge about some breast diseases, Knowledge about breastfeeding in some cases. Results: The mean knowledge score before the intervention was 5.82 ± 1.60, increasing to 8.21 ± 0.94 after the intervention, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). Knowledge improved significantly across all content areas. Mothers aged ≥ 35 had significantly higher knowledge scores than those aged < 35 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Breastfeeding counseling provided by healthcare professionals significantly improved the knowledge of postpartum women with normal delivery. Maternal age was found to be a related factor and should be considered when designing personalized counseling strategies.
