CLINICAL DECISION MAKING LEVEL OF NURSING STUDENTS IN NAM DINH UNIVERSITY OF NURSING AFTER APPLYING SIMULATION TEACHING METHOD
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the changes in clinical decision-making skills of nursing students after applying case-study teaching method. Method: The one-group pretest-posttest interventional design was conducted from January to September 2017 in Nam Dinh University of Nursing. The ability to make clinical decisions of 83 second-year college nursing students were time-line measured. Student’s levels of clinical decisionmaking included the necessity of educator’s orientation to make decisionin all cases (low), in some specific cases (medium), and in no case (good). Results: The students had low decision-making skills reduced from 68,7% to 9,6% after experimentation. The students had medium decision-making skills increased from 20,5% to 62,7% after experimentation. The students had good decision-making skills increased from 10,8% to 27,7% after experimentation, all the difference were statistically significant (p <0,05). Conclusions: The simulation teaching method improved the nursing students’ clinical decision-making skills. Therefore, this method should be applied in nursing university in order to improve quality of nursing education.
