CHANGES IN THE AWARENESS OF PATIENTS FOR PREVENTION OF PEPTIC ULCER RECURRENCE AFTER AN EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTIONAT HA NAM GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2019

Abstract
Objective: To describe the reality and to assess the changes in the awareness of patients with peptic ulcer recurrence prevention of peptic ulcer patients. Method: The one group, pretest and posttest intervention was performed on 64 peptic ulcer inpatient at Ha Nam General Hospital from March 2019 to May 2019. Results: Before the educational intervention, the patients’ awareness of peptic ulcer recurrence was limitted, the mean score of patients’ knowledge for peptic ulcer prevention was 19.56 ± 6.40 points per 42 points of the total scale. After the educational intervention, the mean scores of patients’ awareness went up to 36,73 ± 3,00 points at T2 and remained at 35.97 ± 3.02 points at T3 in comparision with 19.56 ± 6.40 points at T1 (p<0.001). The improvement of patients’ awareness was seen in all contents of preventive knowledge of peptic ulcer recurrence. The percentages of patients who had good level of knowledge at T1, T2 and T3 were 3.1%; 90.6% and 81.2%, respectively. Conclusion: The limitation of patients’ awareness of prevention for peptic ulcer recurrence was improved significantly after educational intervention. The study results show the importance and the need of regular implement of health education for patients with peptic ulcers to prevent recurrence.
