CHANGES IN THE KNOWLEGE OF MOTOR REHABILITATION FOR STROKE PATIENTS AMONG CAREGIVERS AT PHU THO TRADITIONAL MEDICINE AND FUNCTIONAL REHABILITATION HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate changes in the knowledge of motor functional rehabilitation of family caregivers of patients with stroke at Phu Tho Provincial Traditional Medicine and Functional Rehabilitation Hospital after a health educational intervention. Method: The one group pre-test and post-test educational intervention was conducted with a convenient sample of 50 family caregivers who were responsible for taking care of stroke patients from January to May 2020 on the knowledge of motor rehabilitation for stroke patients. Results: After the intervention, the caregiver’s knowledge of rehabilitation for stroke patients was significantly improved. The mean scores of knowledge right after the intervention (T2) and before the discharge day of patients (T3) increased up to 7.48 ± 2.43 points and 9.18 ± 2.83 points compared to 5.88 ± 2.41 points at the time before the intervention (p < 0.001). The percentage of caregivers with the good level of knowledge increased up to 64% at T2 and 76% at T3 in comparision with 38% at the time before the intervention. Conclusion: The knowledge of rehabilitation for stroke patients of the caregivers within this study was limited, then had been improved significantly after the educational intervention.
