EFFECTIVENESS OF HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM ON KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES ABOUT NEONATAL JAUNDICE AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN AT THE DEPARTMENT OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGYQUANG NINH GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2021
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate effectiveness of health education program on knowledge and attitudes about neonatal jaundice among pregnant women at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Quang Ninh General Hospital. Method: Interventional study on a group with a before-after comparison was made with a sample size of 102 35-week pregnant women in who performed periodic antenatal check-ups and registered for birth at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Quang Ninh General Hospital, meeting the inclusion criteria. The health education intervention program was used to provided lectures for the participants. The participant’s knowledge and attitude at 3 time points before, post-intervention and 1 month after the intervention was assessed through the questionnaire designed by the research team. Results: The percentage of pregnant women with knowledge about neonatal jaundice increased significantly from 14.7% before the intervention to 79.4% after the intervention and 83.3% one month after the intervention (p < 0,05). The average point for general knowledge was 18,88± 3,64 per total of 23 immediately after the intervention and 19,53 ± 3,41 after one month of intervention in comparison with 12,15 ± 4,20 of the pre- intervention (p < 0,05). The percentage of pregnant women with the correct general attitude increased from 66.7% before the intervention to 92.2% after the intervention and remained at 92.2% one month after the intervention (p<0.05). The increase in the average point for attitude showed statistical significance from 35,97 ± 3,30 before the intervention to 39,97 ± 3,46 immediately after the intervention and remains on a relatively high level 40,48 ± 3,04 after one month of the intervention (p < 0,05). Conclusion: There was a clear improvement in knowledge and attitude among pregnant women about neonatal jaundice after participating the health.
