RESULTS OF NURSING CARE AND REHABILITATION IN PATIENTS WITH LUMBAR DISC HERNIATION IN HAU GIANG PROVINCIAL GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the results of nursing care and rehabilitation for patients with lumbar disc herniation and to analyze related factors. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 161 patients with lumbar disc herniation hospitalized in the Department of Traditional Medicine - Physiotherapy – Rehabilitation, Hau Giang General Hospital from November 1, 2020 to April 30, 2021. Results: After received medical treatment, nursing care and rehabilitation, the patients’ low back pain, lumbar spine stretch, nerve root compression, lumbar spine range of motion, and daily living activities were considerable improved. The nursing care activities were evaluated quite well; 73.9% of patients rated the general care of nurses as good; 83.2% of patients achieved the good results of medical treatment; Factors related to the result of patients’ care were the BMI of patients (OR=2.393, 95%CI (1.00-6.19)) and times of hospitalization (OR=2.48, 95%CI (1.01-5.90)). improved. Conclusion: Nursing care and rehabilitation for patients with lumbar disc herniation at Hau Giang General Hospital improved considerably the disease symptoms and were well appreciated by the majority of patients. Attentions should be paid to overweight patients and first-time hospitalized patients.
