CHANGE IN CARE KNOWLEDGE OF MOTHERS WHOSE CHILDREN UNDER 2 YEARS OF AGE HAVE PNEUMONIA AT THAI BINH PEDIATRIC HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: To assess the change in care knowledge of mothers whose children under 2 years of age have pneumonia after health education at Thai Binh pediatric hospital. Method: A health education intervention study with before-after comparison on a group of 120 mothers whose children under 2 years of age have pneumonia treated inpatient at Thai Binh pediatric hospital from March to May 2021. Results: Before the intervention, the percentage of mothers with correct knowledge about pneumonia was 26.7% with an average score of 9.4 ± 2.6 of 24 points. After health education, the percentage of mothers with correct knowledge about pneumonia was 99.2%, with an average score of 20.4 ± 2.8 of 24 points. The difference was statistically significant with p<0.01. Conclusion: Mothers’ knowledge about disease, care and prevention of pneumonia is still limited before health education interventions. After health education, mothers’ knowledge has improved significantly, which shows the effectiveness of health education in improving mothers’ knowledge about diseases, care and prevention of pneumonia.
