Inpatients satisfaction with nursing care and related factors at Saint-Paul Hospital 2021

Abstract

Objectives: To describe the levels of inpatients’ satisfaction and related factors with nursing care services at Saint-Paul Hospital in 2021.

Methods and subjects: A descriptive study was conducted on 358 in-patients at clinical wards including Internal Medicine Wards and Surgical Medicine Wards at Saint-Paul Hospital from March, 2021 to October, 2021.

Results: The average score of patient satisfaction with nursing care was 79.56 ± 10.54. The majority of patients rated their satisfaction with nursing care services as very good
and excellent accounting for 71.51%, good level accounted for 26.54%, and only 1.96% rated at middle level. Patients rated the highest satisfaction for the item related to “Skill
and competence of nurses: How well things were done, like giving medicine and handling intravenous injection”, however, the patients rated the lowest satisfaction with the items “Restful atmosphere provided by nurses Privacy: provisions for your privacy by nurses: amount of peace and quiet” and “Privacy: provisions for your privacy by nurses”. Patients
with no comorbidity had a lower level of satisfaction than those with one comorbidity with OR = 0.34 (95%CI: 0.19 – 0.62) and lower level of satisfaction than those with 3 or more
comorbidities with OR = 0.29 (95% CI: 0.11 – 0.77).

Conclusion: Overall, the results of the study showed that nurses provided clear and necessary information and explanations to patients, providing high quality nursing care services to patients to ensure patient satisfied with the nursing care services that they received while staying at hospital for treatment. Continuous training for nurses on communication skills so that nurses can perform well their responsibilities and care to the patients
