The effects of through injury and factors related to the elderly in Nam Dinh city in 2021

Abstract

Objective: To determine the consequences of fall injuries and related factors for the elderly and their families in Nam Dinh city in 2021. Subjects and research methods: Cross-sectional description of the consequences of injury of falls in the elderly, from January 2021 to December 2021, in the area of 4 wards and communes: Nam Van, Nam Phong, My Xa, Loc Hoa - Nam Dinh city. Results: Injuries from falls accounted for 32.5% of the elderly in Nam Dinh City, the most injured age was 66, the lowest age 60, the highest 99, the mean age 76.48, age group ≥ 80 accounted for 62.3%, female 66.2%. Consequences of injury due to falls for the elderly, when going up and down stairs need help 73.8%, bathing needs help 73.1% and full support 25.4%, walking needs help 55 .4%. Household income fell by 29.2% and a temporary decrease of 63.1%. Food supply to households decreased by 5.4% and temporarily decreased by 86.9%. Relatives have to take time off from school or work to take care of 64.7%, hire someone to take care of 8.8%. The relationship between elderly people participating in social activities and self-employed workers with serious and very serious injuries is 9 times higher and higher than that of retirees and housewives (OR = 9.0; p <0.000). Families have to borrow to pay for hospital treatment, which is 30.96 times higher than that of primary care (OR = 30.96; p <0.000). Conclusion: Injuries from falls significantly affect the elderly and their families. Factors related to injury from falls for the elderly when participating in social activities, self-employed workers and families having to borrow to pay for injury treatment at the hospital
