Palliative care need of cancer patients at the oncology center, Thai Nguyen central Hospital and related fators
Abstract
Objective: To describe the current situation and identify factors related to the need for palliative care among cancer patients at the Oncology Center, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital in 2021.
Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study was conductef on 190 cancer patients aged 18 years and older and inpatient treatment from December 2020 to June 2021.
Results: The proportion of patients with palliative care needs accounted for 66.3%. In which, the 3 groups with the highest rate of need for support were: the need for medical information support, the need for financial support and social welfare, and the need for material support.There were statistical significant relationships between the need for palliative care with the stage of cancer and occupation of patients. The group of patients in stages III and IV had a need for palliative care 1.63 times higher than that the group of patients in stage I, II (p < 0.05; 95% CI: 1.15 - 2.32). Patients who were farmers had a need for palliative care 3.17 times higher compared with retired patients (p<0.05; 95% CI: 1.43 – 7.07).
Conclusions: Palliative care need of cancer patients participating in the study is high. Palliative care need of cancer patients were related to disease stage and occupation of patients
