Levels of students’ participation and factors affecting their participation in scientific research activities at Nam Dinh University of Nursing

Abstract

Objectives: Describing the level of student nurses’ participation and factors affecting their participation in scientific research activities.

Research Methods: The study was conducted from August 2020 to June 2021 with a quantitative research using secondary data provided by the Department of Management and Scientific Research, and a qualitative research on 40 students of NamDinh University of Nursing.

Results: The study showed that in recent years there has been a significant change in the quantity and quality of students’ scientific research activities. In 2016, there were no students participating in scientific research activities and so far there have been 13 projects approved, 10 projects admitted, 33 creative start-up ideas and 30 students have done graduate thesis.

Conclusion: Althought these numbers are not great; they also show that students have made progress in scientific research activities. The university needs to train students some personal competencies, skills and necessary techniques such as communicating, collecting, analyzing, documents synthesizing, teamworking, work planning skills so that they will be more confident and proactive when participating in scientific research activities
