Nutritional status of first-year students at Hanoi Medical University - Thanh Hoa Campus in the 2023 - 2024 academic year

Abstract

Objective: To describe the nutritional status of first-year students at Hanoi Medical University - Thanh Hoa Campus the 2023 - 2024 academic year. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 147 first-year students during the annual health check-up at Hanoi Medical University - Thanh Hoa Campus, with nutritional status measured through the Body Mass Index (BMI); classified according to the Asian Diabetes Association (IDI & WPRO) classification scale. Results: The average height and weight of male students were 169.74 ± 6.46 cm and 68.74 ± 14.1 kg, respectively, and for female students were 157.12 ± 5.32 cm and 50.32 ± 7.7 kg. The rate of chronic energy deficiency among students was 23.81%; including 8% of males and 31.96% of females. The rate of overweight students was 28.57%, with 50% of males and 17.52% of females. Conclusion: This study will contribute to the development of effective nutrition and health strategies for students at Hanoi Medical University - Thanh Hoa Campus, improving the quality of life and health of students during their studies
