Abstract

Objectives: To assess the knowledge and attitudes of ICU nurses at Viet Duc University Hospital regarding brain death and organ donation from brain-dead donors. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 430 ICU nurses from March to December 2024. Data were collected using the nursing knowledge and attitude assessment tool with Cronbach alpha indexes of 0.82 and 0.79, respectively. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0. Results: 32.9% of nurses had good knowledge scores (14-18 points), 65.6% had fair scores (9-13 points), and 1.5% had poor knowledge (< 8 points). 56% had a positive attitude (8-12 points), while 44% showed less positive attitudes (≤ 7 points). Conclusion: Nurses’ knowledge on brain death and organ donation is relatively good; however, attitudes and actions are not yet aligned. More targeted education and behavioral interventions are needed to empower nurses in promoting organ donation
