Impact of gamification on learning outcome: The intermediate roles of satisfaction and engagement
Abstract
The proliferation of digital technology has transformed learning approaches in the modern world. Gamification, a creative method to optimize learning, has become increasingly prevalent. This study investigates how gamification influences learning effectiveness by fostering engagement and enjoyment. Gamification elements, including challenges and enjoyable factors, significantly enhance the study’s learning outcomes. Games promote cohesion and satisfaction within the classroom, as evidenced by data collected from 306 responses from undergraduate and graduate students. However, the competitive aspect of gamification fails to enhance student engagement and satisfaction in educational gamified environments. Consequently, it does not significantly impact learning effectiveness. This study holds significance for education as it will help organizations, schools, teachers, and researchers better understand how enjoyable and challenging factors enhance learning effectiveness by fostering engagement and satisfaction.
