The Impact of Leadership Characteristics on the Performance of Vietnamese Enterprises
Abstract
The leadership team of a company, including the Board of Directors and the CEO, plays a significant role in the company’s business decisions and overall organizational performance. This study focuses on evaluating the impact of leadership characteristics, including the CEO's age, gender, and Board size on the operational performance of 148 non-financial enterprises in Vietnam during the period from 2013 to 2022, with a division between two groups based on enterprise size. The results of the FGLS estimation method indicate that the CEO's age positively affects the company's performance, especially in large enterprises, while the CEO's gender does not have a statistically significant impact. The size of the Board also shows a positive effect on large enterprises, but a negative effect on small ones. The findings of this study could provide insights that contribute to the sustainable development of businesses in Vietnam.
