Abstract

“Nguon” held a very important position in the medieval history of Vietnam; however, it has not been studied thoroughly so far, so several issues related to “Nguon” have not been clarified. In this article, the author studies “Nguon” as a “special administrative unit” established in Binh Dinh province in the 20th century. Based on historical sources of the Nguyen Dynasty and results from fieldwork, the article employs historical, logical, analytical, proof and synthesis methods to clarify the research problem. The article founds the basis for the establishment, number, name, and official location of “Nguon” in Binh Dinh, feudal dynasty built and implemented the function of “Nguon” in Binh Dinh, and draws characteristics and role of “Nguon” in Binh Dinh in this historical period. Through that, it contributes to clarify the function of “Nguon” in Vietnam in the 20th century.
