The impact of some socio-economic factors on life expectancy: a study in some Southeast Asian countries

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to find the socio-economic factors affecting life expectancy in 10 Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, from 1990 - 2021, using balanced panel data. After conducting a series of tests, it was concluded that the FGLS (Feasible Generalized Least Squares) regression is optimal. The results indicate a positive correlation between the number of doctors per 1,000 people and GDP (Gross Domestic Product) with life expectancy. Conversely, inflation has a negative correlation with life expectancy. Notably, CO2 emissions correlate positively with life expectancy, while forest cover has a negative correlation, which contrasts with initial predictions and global research findings. Nevertheless, this study is just the first step in exploring the factors influencing life expectancy in Southeast Asia.
