Abstract
Inquiry of the natural world is one of three specific chemistry competencies that need to be developed for students to meet the goals of the new general education program. However, this is a new competence with complicated formation and development process, so most teachers are quite confused and unfamiliar with the organization. The steps in the process of inquiry-based and problem-based learning have many correlations with manifestations of competence, so they create many opportunities for students to form and develop this competency. The article presents the compatibility between the process of inquiry-based and problem-based learning with the manifestations of inquiry ability of the natural world in light of chemistry, and suggests the contents that can apply inquiry-based and problem-based learning in teaching Periodic Table of Chemical Elements to develop students' inquiry competence of the natural world in light of chemistry. The article illustrates two contents that apply teaching to explore, solve problems and analyze the expression of competency criteria in each activity on Periodic Table of Chemical Elements.
