Abstract

In this article, we read Deep Fragrant ofMother-land's Green Rice by Nguyen Tham ThienKe to analyse how the writer created a sense oforigin and place belonging through a strategycalled cultural reterritorialization. This strategy, asDonelle N. Dreese presented, involvesrecuperating the land by recalling past landscapesand telling stories about its cultural identity. Thisarticle will clarify this characteristic by linking thewriter’s descriptions of homeland in Nguyen ThamThien Ke’s work with Dreese’s theory about thesense of origin and place. In Deep Fragrant ofMother-land's Green Rice, this sense links to thegeoculture space of Northern Vietnam. The writerrestores the source of oral traditions and storiesabout the history of the land, especially the culinaryand architectural culture. The sense of place andorigin is a way for the writer to find connectionbetween himself and the surrounding environment
