Abstract
This article delves into the traditionalantithesis in Yi Mun-yol's (이문열) short storyGaruda through narrative discourse analysis. Itexplores the discursive strategies Yi Mun-yolemploys to establish traditional antithesis,including poetics of character, reinterpretation, andcontextual shift. The author portrays the strugglebetween the new and the old through the conflictswithin the character system. The strategy ofreinterpretation provides a different understandingof traditional discourse. Meanwhile, contextualshift creates an intersection between the past andthe present. These discourse strategies offer aunique literary space, promoting creativity. Thestudy emphasizes that Yi Mun-yol's workscontribute to the restructuring of traditional values,enriching the contemporary Korean literarylandscape.
