The rational section of gravity concrete dam constructed in seismic zone

Abstract

    Finding rational sections in gravity concrete dam is relevant to both mechanical and economical aspects. This paper introduces the method to find appropriate sections of dam constructed in seismic zone and the results from the research of finding the parameter for those sections for dam with different height. The study is applied to Son La dam and its rational section has a polygonal form with 7,5% reduction in section's area compared to the constructed one. The results in this research can be used as reference in designing gravity concrete dam with rock foundation in seismic zone.
