Applying remote sensing technology and GIS to study evolution of Nam Đinh coastlines during period 1912 - 2013
Abstract
Based on remote sensing technology and GIS, we can find the evolution of Nam Dinh coastal lines for each sections over the temporal scales. Results showed that the section starting at the south of Ba Lat estuary to Ha Lan is moving smoothly from sedimentation to erosion and at present it is alternately changed between erosion and deposition. The section between Ha Lan to Lai Giang estuary is eroded continuosly over the last 100 years, but gradualy erosion now. The variations at Day and Lach Giang estuaries are very complex, but deposition dominately. The coastal section at the south of Day estuary belonging to Nghia Hung district is deposited continously, except first 10 km just Day estuary with alternately between sedimentation and erosion.
Based on the anslysis and convolution of images at different period, we have quantified the changing of the coasts and find out the reasons of these changes. From that the solutions to reduce the situation and control are proposed for stabilising sea dikes, coastal infrastructures to support socio-economics development in Nam Dinh Province.
