Abstract

In recent years, beach erosion and coastline retreat have become increasingly severe in Cuu Long river delta generally and in Bac Lieu province particularly. Measured data of coastal profiles in March 2011 and January 2015 shows that the foreshore of the study area is continually eroded, both in alongshore and cross-shore directions. Notably, beach erosion also occurs along coastline stretches protected by mangroves in the study area. Calculation of beach erosion has been performed to analyse the cause of erosion and the growth of wave height due to foreshore lowering. The results of these calculation serve as a basis for recommending solutions to foreshore protection and upgrading the present sea dike system, especially in the context of climate change and sea level rise.
