Clean development mechanism and challenges of VN under the Kyoto commitment

Abstract

    Recently global warming has been a burning issue. There are a variety of agreements between countries arming to reduce green house emission. Kyoto protocol is the next stage of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The pact has flexible mechanisms to help developed countries to meet the commitment and encourage developing countries to develop in sustainable manner. Vietnam, as a developing and vulnerable country, signed the Kyoto commitment in early stage of the pact (1998) and became a non-Annex I party. Vietnam has open policies in implement of CDM projects in potential for green house gas reduction sectors. However, joining the commitment is a opportunity and challenges for Vietnam in sustainable development of the country. This paper will discuss the challenges in CDM projects in aspect of developing countries and give an overview about the compensation in the case of too many CDM

projects implemented.
