Reliability analysis of Huu Hong levee through inner Hanoi city
Abstract
According to the department of dike management, the current dikes of Hanoi is high enough to prevent river floods. However, the dikes have not been "challenged" with the major floods. In addition, reduction of strengths of the dike body and its foundation and existence of mashes ponds along the dikes frequently leads to sand boiling and even piping occurs at many places, which threatening stability of the dike system. This paper presents reliability analysis of the dike system by application of reliability theory and probabilistic approach. Detailed analysis is performed for the case of Huu Hong dikes which protects central Hanoi. Research results show that Huu Hong dike system need to be upgraded in order to ensure flood safety by present standard and further more for the situation of present socio-economic development.
