Abstract

The exploitation of the excessive groundwater to serve aquaculture and water supply for domestic are more increase and are a challenge to the coastal provinces in the Mekong River Delta, it is the main cause of exhaust and lowering of groundwater level, it is also the cause of the subsidence of land for Mekong River Delta. Therefore, the main goal of this research focused on solving issues of water resources for aquaculture development by the exploit using rain water, rain water retention and groundwater exploitation control water supply serving coastal aquaculture in the Mekong River Delta. The results have determined that, of the amount of water needed to compensate supply for 1ha of aquaculture area ranged from 2200 m3/ha to 3900 m3/ha, the amount of fresh water needed to compensation will vary in the range 1100 m3/ha to 1950 m3/ha and the average of 1656 m3/ha. So 1ha of aquaculture needs a area about 600 m2 to 1100 m2 to build tanks, equivalent to 6% to 11% out of aquaculture area. Research results provide the planners, managers to proposal the policy and management strategy of exploiting and using rain water resources to sustainable development of the aquaculture and reducing of land subsidence from the impact of excessive groundwater exploitation of the coastal plain of the Mekong River Delta.
