Formulating the salt intrusion process during driest month in Huong Catchment
Abstract
Huong Catchment is one of the most abundant water in term of quantity, but uneven distribution in time. That causes the sereous flood, inundation during the rainy season, but very dry in the mainder time of year. Water taken increasingly from main course and tributaries of Huong river, specially at the estuaries to serve socio-economic activities is a main reason for salt water intrusion into river. Aplication of MIKE11 to formulate the salt intrusion process during driest month of March. Data including water discharge upper boundaries, tidal water level downstream and salt concentration along the river in the duration from February to April, 1981 were used to calibrate and the set of data at the same months in 1984 were applied to validity of the model. The salt formulation is conducted with 3 scennarios having consideration of design water flow naturally and extra water regulated from reservoirs and role of salt protected barrage of Thao Long at the downstream.
