An experimental study on discharge coefficient of oblique weirs

Abstract

     There are some problems, often of practical important, to the safety of Vietnamese river dikes and other regional dikes, road foundations, structures and groynes or barrages in the flood plains of big river systems. They are the flood flow over those structures during high water period, which may be largely associated with flow over oblique weirs. The purpose of this paper is to report on the laboratory investigation on the flow over oblique weirs, including behaviour and hydraulic characteristic of the flow, hydraulic parameters and physical laws that govern the process. This topic has a wide application while it has hardly been studied, described or published. Using a large number of experiments and with the aid of the stateof-art experimental instruments and data analysis software, important results on the discharge coefficient, the change in direction of the flow and other related phenomena have been acquired.
