Evaluation of Geo-tube functions on beach nourishment and mangrove forest development in Go Cong district, Tien Giang province
Abstract
Along the coastal area in the west of Go Cong (Tien Giang Province), the mangrove system has played an important role to not only reduce wind and swell waves but also protect the beach and the seadikes. However, in recent decade, this mangrove system is seriously degraded. It leads shoreline areas to be vulnerable. The process of shoreline erosion becomes more extremely complex. Therefore, the local government has a plan to build a hydraulic construction system, aim to protect the coastal area and rehabilitate the mangroves. One proposed solution is the groynes and breakwater by Geo-Tube. This study will present the application of the hydraulic and morphological model (MIKE11 and MIKE 21) to evaluate an effect of the Geo-Tube breakwater solution on the hydro-dynamic and sediment transport in the coastal area, Go Cong district, Tien Giang province. The result of this study will show the ability to creat the conditions for the redevelopment of mangroves and the beach nourishment of the Geo-Tube breakwater.
