Research on present condition and selecting appropriate flushing solution in case of extreme flood, to ensure safety for Nui Mot reservoir, Binh Dinh province
Abstract
Reservoir is an important type of structure for water resource usage and water related disaster mitigation. The safety of such reservoirs is a problem of concern, especially in irregularly variable hydrometerological conditions in context of climate change. In fact, most reservoirs of medium and small sizes being constructed are not accompanied by structural solution to ensure safety in case of excessive design frequency floods or extreme floods. Many hazards have occurred to reservoirs. The Nui Mot reservoir is the second largest one in Binh Dinh province also does not meet safety requirements in extreme flood. If any hazard occurred to the Nui Mot reservoir, the consequence would be catastrophic, as its downstream floodplain is home to many inhabitants with important infrastructure. The paper clarifies the present condition and suggests solution for safety of Nui Mot reservoir in case of excessive design frequency floods.
