Research on reservoirs operation of Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin in dry season with hec-ressim model

Abstract

     The construction of hydropower systems has been creating complicated issues for the water resources management in river basins related with different water users. The problem requires a "harmonious" solution among different water use objectives to improve the efficiency of water allocation in the river basins. This article presents the results of application of HEC-RESSIM model to simulate the operation of the reservoir system of Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin in dry season, to ensure minimum downstream flow requirements and maximization of power production from the hydropower system. Research's results can be used to provide recommendations to improve the performance of the reservoir system in practice.
