The role of surface water and some solutions to use the surface water in urban landscape architecture

Abstract

The surface water in the urban area plays an important role in air conditioning,rain water drainage, creating an architectural space and landscape. Preserving and developing the spatial surfacewater systemthat the architectural planning is aiming to develop a green and modern city. If the terrain is a key factor of the landscape, the surface water creates the abundance of the landscape. Especially, in urban pollution environment, the surface watercontributes to freshen the atmosphere, reduces contaminate, dust and industrial waste, dissolves toxic substances in the atmosphere.The surface waterdemand is also as high as the trees demand in reducing temperature, increasing humidity, oxygen supply and urban noise protection; we cannot only care about growing trees without paying attention to develop thespatial surface water. From the perspective of architecture, grasping the role of thesurface water, we will provide solutions to build architectural works to meet the requirements of urban landscape and climate improvement.
