Estimate engineering ability of local sand material for concrete and mortar in Quang Tri

Abstract

This paper to evaluated usability of field sand in Quang Tri province for manufacturing fine aggregate for concrete and mortar, in order to replace natural river sand. Research outlines indicated that all filed sand, belonged to Phu Xuan and Nam O formation, has high potential and wide distribution under sand dunes, sand bars and fields of sand,…, the conditions of transportation and exploitation are feasible and meet requirements of fine aggregate for concrete and mortar. The concrete and mortar strength when to mix the
filed sand with Thach Han sand in of 30:70; 40:60; 50:50 ratio, varied in range from 211 to 300 daN/cm2 .

    This concrete strength is above 72% in comparison with concrete used with 100% natural sand. Similarity of mortar strength varied from 56 daN/cm2 to 86 daN/cm2 , also mortar strength is greater than 56.7% in comparison with mortar of 100% natural sand. In addition, concrete and mortar with fine aggregate of Nam O is better than Phu Xuan, so that we chosed Nam O field sand (with mixed 50% ratio) for replacing Thach Han natural sand in Quang Tri.
