Study on the status of seawall failure in Do Son town, Hai Phong city, and the causes of the failure
Abstract
The Do Son peninsula, located southeast of Hai Phong city, is currently protected by a late-nineteenthcentury seawall system. As a result of the recurring effects of waves and storms, these structures have frequently been damaged, broken, or collapsed over time, having a significant impact on local people's lives and economic activities. This article will first summarize the current status of the seawall system in the Do Son tourist area, then classify the seawalls in the region. The paper also discusses the failure mechanism and cause of damage to the Do Son seawall system. The failure mechanism due to wave overtopping has been computed and analyzed for each sea wall section using the overtopping discharge unit and the structure's safety level. The assessment of the current state and safety level of each seawall segment will serve as a key basis for future research and proposal of solutions to address the seawall's existing shortcomings in the Do Son tourism region.
