Abstract

This paper presents a simulation study of an old generation diesel engine's pollutant utilizing an exhaust gas recirculation method. The study process was conducted on the simulation tool AVL Boost. The exhaust gas recirculation was executed by introducing an amount of exhaust gas from the engine into the intake manifold before the compressor, thanks to the pressure difference between exhaust gas and intake air. The recirculation ratio was adjusted by the recirculation valve. The simulation was conducted at various operating load conditions of 25, 50, 75% and speeds of 1000, 1600, and 2200 rpm. The simulation results were used to develop the relationship between the speed, load condition, and exhausted recirculation rate for NOx reduction and less affects to CO and soot pollutants.
