Effects of ship propeller to disturbance and redistribution sediment on ship navigation channel

Abstract

     When the vessels transport in a river, propeller cause disturbance of sediment and redistribution within waterway that might block the vessel naigation, especially in the shallow waterdepth areas. The process of sediment transport by ship propellers can affect either bottom topography change or suspended sediment. According to the research results, these amount of transported sediment volumes are significant; it is therefore needed to study for the waterway channel management, and maintenance as well as planning for annual dredging.
