Research on the flood prevention’s effectiveness of Dinh Binh reservoir for downstream region of Kone River - Binh Dinh Province

Abstract

     Dinh Binh reservoir is a major project invested by the State in Binh Dinh, a province frequently hit by natural disasters which affecting the area's people's lives and their agricultural production. The mission of Dinh Binh reservoir is: to prevent sub-chronic flooding, early flooding, late flooding and to limit main flood seasons' harmful effects toward the downstream region of Kone River; to supply water for agriculture, people's habitation and economic sectors such as marine and industrial production; to maintain the flow in dry season for salinity intrusion reduction and the ecological environment protection; to support water's generator work. This paper presents the hydraulic calculation for Kone River system before and after the reservoir's construction to assess the flood prevention's effectiveness of Dinh Binh reservoir for downstream region of Kone River,
