Economic risk assessment caused by flood inundation and application for the project of inundation prevention in Ho Chi Minh city - phase 1

Abstract

    This paper aims to determine the damage value due to flood inundation in Ho Chi Minh city and apply for the project of inundation prevention in this city - phase 1 with the study area of 136.6 km2 . MIKE 11 and MIKE FLOOD in combination with Arc GIS were used to simulate the flood inundation and determine the damage accordingly. The damage levels were classified based on the land use and calculated via field investigation as well as the historical data statistic. The relationship between damage values and frequency of flood inundation was established. These damage values will be used for risk management due to flood inundation as well as determine the reasonable scale and standard of safe for inundation prevention constructions in this study area following the risk analysis method.
