Application of remote sensing and geographic information system to shoreline change analysis at Nha Trang beach, Khanh Hoa province

Abstract

    Monitoring and analysis of shoreline change and rate at Nha Trang beach, Khanh Hoa province in5 years (2013 to 2018) are performed in GIS using Landsat 8 and Sentinel 2 satellite images. Theresults indicate that the largest erosion of shoreline in the period of 2013-2014 located in Vinh ThoWard, northern of Nha Trang Bay, has been thoroughly prevented. Nevertheless, the shoreline inVinh Hoa Ward and Xuong Huan Ward are experiencing abnormal coastal erosion and deposition.In particular, massive beach erosion in Vinh Hoa Ward requires strict surveillances. According tothe research, practical effectiveness,reliability and applicability of proposed approach applyingremote sensing and GIS has been achieved.
