Abstract

Landscape assessment is aimed at making decisions for suitable land use and protection in accordance with the natural characteristics and resources of each territorial unit. This paper evaluates landscape adaptability for the development of annual and perennial crop cultivation in Phu Tho Province. The evaluation results showed that both annual and perennial crops are quite well adapted to the ecological conditions of the province with 202,383 hectares (accounting for 57.26% of the province’s total natural area) of landscapes that can be chosen for growing annual crops, specifically: very suitable areas cover 66,516 ha, suitable areas 54,411ha, and poorly suitable areas 80,962 ha. For perennial crops, there are 210,606 ha (accounting for 59.58% of the total natural area of the province) of landscapes available, including: very suitable areas cover 106,500 ha, suitable areas 101.200 ha, and poorly suitable areas only 2,905 ha. This provides a basis for proposing priority spaces for the rational development of these two types of land use, ensuring optimal use of natural resources and environmental protection in Phu Tho province.
