Abstract

Evaluating the utilization efficiency of natural capital could advocate the comprehensive assessment of the local economic growth model, which therefore improves the effect of territorial management and planning. Binh Duong is one of the most dynamic economies in Vietnam. However, rapid economic g has caused a wide range of social and environmental conflicts, which thus has impacted the sustainability of territory development. Our study employed ecological footprint (EF) and biocapacity (BC) to examine the overpopulation in Binh Duong in 2020. With a huge area of productive agricultural land and high productivity, the EF and BC in Dau Tieng district are the most significant (contributing 34,15% and 26,52% to the total EF and BC in Binh Duong, respectively). Meanwhile, 5/9 administrative units at the town and city level focusing on industrial development have become overpopulated (Di An city, Thuan An city, Thu Dau Mot city, Ben Cat town and Tan Uyen town). The above research results are the basis to consider the extent of the shortage or surplus reserve of the territorial capacity of Binh Duong province for development in the coming time.
