Experiments of spring onion drying in a model of tray dryer by solar energy

Abstract

The paper presents experimental results of the scallion drying on a tray dryer model with its capacity of one kg per batch that was supplied hot air by a solar heat absorber. Experiments was carried out three types of drying agent velocity including 0.5m/s, 0.8m/s and 1.1m/s while the temperature of the hot air was stable adjustment at 39 +-1 Censius degree. Experimental results showed that dried green onion at the drying agent velocity of 0.8 m/s with drying time of 6.5h has got the moisture content from 92% of wet material to 11, 1% of finish product reaches and the specific electricity consumption of 2.42kWh per kg moisture.
