Factors affect the university choice of high school students in Phu Yen province
Abstract
The study determines the factors and the influences of each factor on the decision of high school students in Phu Yen province to choose a university. The survey was conducted on 588 students from high schools in April 2022 by answering the 5-level Likert scale questionnaires, the article uses a multivariate regression model and exploratory factor analysis EFA. Research results show that there are 4 factors including (1) universities’ characteristics, (2) learners’ characteristics, (3) universities’ communication, and (4) opinions of influential individuals which have positive impacts on the decision of high school students in Phu Yen province to choose a university. The research also shows that more than 90% of high school students in the province are more willing to enroll in universities in other provinces than local ones. This has contributed to making enrollment in local universities very difficult. Thereby, the article gives some recommendations to improve the effectiveness of enrollment at universities in Phu Yen province.
