Developing green banking in Vietnam- social responsibility in environmental protection
Abstract
Nowadays, economic development without environmental protection leads to climate change, depletion of natural resources, environmental pollution, and then seriously affects human life. Therefore, when developing economic, many countries pay much more attention to the sustainable development. “Green banking” development activities adopted by a wide range of economies are considered as important solutions to cope with climate change and ensure sustainable economic development for their social responsibility in environmental protection. However, the term “green banking” is a new initiative and not developed in Vietnam. As a result, based on the review of the previous studies and the experiences of some countries, as well as the status of the green banking activities of commercial banks in Vietnam, this paper aims to propose some solutions to develop green banking in Vietnam. The State Bank of Vietnam should regulate to support the development of green banking, and organize workshops, train specialists on green banking to provide guidance for commercial banks; and commercial banks are encouraged to develop green banking products, motivate green credit policies, and conduct staff training in raising the awareness of the issue….
