Human resources development in banking industry: The case of Vietnam
Abstract
Vietnam is entering a period of extensive and comprehensive international integration. In this context, developing high quality human resources plays an essential role in sustainable economic growth. Banking is considered as the lifeblood of the national economy, so enhancing the quality of human resources in banking industry is a matter of particular concern, especially in the context of Industry 4.0. At the core of Industry 4.0 is information technology (IT), while Banking is a field of high IT application, affected by the wave of 4.0 technologies. Therefore, human resources must be constantly developed to meet those changes. However, the reality of human resources in Vietnam’s banking industry is facing many difficulties, especially the shortage of personnel capable of data analysis, proficiency in operating digital technology in addition to professional competence. Vietnam needs to seize the opportunities, learn and change to cope with the challenges facing new changes of the banking industry. Based on analyzing the situation and assessing the shortcomings and limitations for human resources of the banking industry, the article offers some recommendations and suggestions to enhance the effectiveness of human resource training and development for banking industry in the period of 2020 - 2025 and vision to 2030.
